Bring a little winter wonder to your home with this sparkly, festive cross stitch by Jenny Van De Wiele.
snow cross stitch

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the stitching is so delightful! If it’s a chilly winter’s day and you want to stay cosy inside, this sparkling snowflake cross stitch by Jenny Van De Wiele is the ideal project to accompany a relaxed afternoon on the sofa. Don’t forget the hot chocolate!

Your design will begin with white and silver lettering, followed by stitching the snowflakes and adding beads for a luxurious finishing touch. Zweigart’s ice blue aida is a very apt fabric to use for this snowy design, and it makes the lettering and metallic thread detail really pop.

Top tip: Spread a clean towel across your lap when you’re stitching with beads, so it can catch any that get dropped as you work.

Find everything you need to create the snowflake cross stitch here, including the materials list and your free cross stitch chart which you can download as a PDF.

This delightful pattern was designed by Jenny Van De Wiele and originally published in World of Cross Stitching issue 274.

How to add seed beads

To attach your beads, use a whole cross stitch to help keep the beads upright and create a consistent finish. Attach the bead to the design with the bottom arm of a cross stitch and then add the top arm of the stitch, making sure that one strand of thread falls on either side of the bead to help hold it upright.

Creating your festive stitching

There are many ways to make your stitching more festive! This project uses metallic threads and glittering beads to add that extra touch of sparkle. Once you’re finished, hang it somewhere that will catch the light.

How to work with metallic threads

Metallic threads can be tricky, they often unravel and are easily knotted. With our metallic thread guide, you’ll learn how to use them with ease.
